A thank-you, and a print for the wall

The Kettleby print: a hand-drawn map of the town, from St Mary’s church to the bus garage, with Maureen at number 11, the Red Lion, Café Rosa and Kettleby station
  • NewA thank-you from all of us who make Kettle Street: everyone with the full game gets a letter through the door from the team, and a print of Kettleby for the wall.
  • NewThe Kettleby print is a hand-drawn map of the town, from St Mary’s to the bus garage, with Maureen on her step. It’s in your storage at home: hang it up in the Decorator.
  • NewThe end of the free first week now shows what you’ve made of your week and what’s coming up, and it comes on the Monday morning, before the first rent, rather than at midnight.
  • NewThe title card says what the free week is and what the full game costs, in your own currency, and the Today app reminds you as the week runs out.

Pixel 10s back in the picture

  • FixedFixed a white screen on Pixel 10 phones with Android 17: their graphics chip stops drawing when there are shadows, so shadows are off on those phones. You can try them again in Settings → Shadows.

Quieter round the station

  • FixedYou only hear the station’s announcements and trains when you’re at the station. They were carrying round the streets nearby.
  • FixedThe pavement outside the station by the taxi rank no longer flickers.

All aboard: Kettleby station is open

  • NewKettleby’s station is open! Coastway Rail trains run from the top of Station Road along the new line to the coast.
  • NewNew job: train driver. Sign on in the crew room at the station (the staff entrance by the car park), then take the three-car train to Saundersby and back: six stations each way, signals to obey, a timetable to keep, and the sea at the end of the line.
  • NewDrive with a power and brake handle (W and S, or the lever on your phone). Stop at the board, open the doors, wait for the guard’s bell, and mind the level crossing.
  • NewSaundersby’s station is open at the end of the line, but you can’t get off there just yet.
  • FixedParked cars and vans no longer leave their lights on.
  • NewYou can now follow Kettle Street on TikTok (@kettlestreet) and Instagram (@kettlestreetgame). The links are in the Council app, under Follow Kettle Street.

The town at the end of the line

  • NewThe seaside town at the end of the new railway line has a name: Saundersby.
  • NewThe groundwork for the line is nearly done. Before long you’ll be able to take the train from Kettleby to the coast for a day out.

A switch for every room

  • FixedEvery room’s light has its own switch now. Upstairs in a house, or in a flat, switching on a fourth light turned another room’s off.
  • FixedHalls, landings, bathrooms and the box room are no longer dazzling with the big light on. Small rooms are lit as softly as the living room.

Settling in after the move

  • FixedMoving house fixes. Your pet’s cage now goes where you can see it in your new place: it was going in a corner of the front room hidden behind the hall wall. If yours is stuck there, it’s brought out where you can see it.
  • FixedKettlenet’s green cabinet no longer ends up in the road (or round the corner) when you move near a junction. It stays on the pavement, clear of front doors and bus stops.

Moving house

  • NewMove house! Once you’ve a reference, the wages and the deposit, tap Move in on a Hopkins Lettings listing and book Dougie for a day in the coming week.
  • NewThe deposit and first week come out of your savings first, and you can’t move if it would leave you overdrawn.
  • NewOn moving day Dougie and Mrs Hopkins meet you at your new front door with the keys. Your bed’s up when you get in, and everything else is in boxes to unpack.
  • NewDecorate every room: houses have a front room, kitchen-diner, hall, two bedrooms, a box room, a landing and a bathroom, each with its own paint, flooring and light switch.
  • NewFlats have a living room, bedroom, kitchen and a little shower room. Have a shower, or a bath in a house.
  • NewTurn the camera indoors at home (C, or the turn button) to see your place from every side.
  • NewYour post, parcels, bin, bike, broadband and the lit window follow you to the new address. The electric goes on a direct debit, and what’s left on your key comes back to you.

Fresh gossip

  • FixedYour family and the street chat don’t repeat themselves any more: once something’s been said, it won’t come round again for weeks, and on a long day of playing they’ll go quiet rather than start again.
  • NewLots more to talk about: new questions from Mum, Dad and Liam, more news, more street gossip, and chatter for the time of year.
  • NewStories that carry on over the weeks in the family group: Liam learning to drive, Dad and Keith at the allotment show, Mum’s dance class, Pickle at the vet and Nan getting online.
  • NewYour family hear about what you’ve been up to: a promotion, a new job, a pet, a bike, the pub quiz, wi-fi in the flat, money saved and more.
  • NewMaureen notices when you’ve been driving the bus, working the bar or waiting tables at the Tandoori.

Bin day

  • NewYour wheelie bin now stands by your front door. On a Wednesday, from dinnertime, walk up to it to wheel it out to the kerb for Thursday’s lorry.
  • NewMaureen reminds the street about the bins on Wednesday evening, and your bed mentions it if you turn in with the bin still in.
  • NewMaureen’s more forgiving about the bins: your first week doesn’t count, and she only gets put out if she’s had to do it three Thursdays running.
  • NewWalking sensitivity for the touch stick: from Very low to High (Settings → Controls). Lower settings turn you round more gently and give you more room for a slow walk.
  • NewSteering with the stick now goes down to Very low, for a calmer ride in the van and the bus.

Version 1.1.5Repairs

Dev stops knocking

  • FixedDev from Kettlenet no longer turns up at the crossroads on the High Street when you haven’t ordered anything. If he fitted you anyway, you’ve had your money back.

  • NewLost your bike? It has its own orange pin on the Map now, just under Home in Where to?, and the first few times you leave it somewhere you’re told where.
  • NewWork has started on a Pennyfields supermarket out past the end of the High Street. Walk out and read the board.
  • NewThe new station has come on: the booking hall’s glazed with its name on the roof, both platforms are in, the footbridge is up and the car park’s going in.

  • NewSteering sensitivity: Low, Normal or High.
  • NewLeft-handed? Put the red button and the pedals on the left in Settings → Controls.
  • NewYour phone fits the screen when you play sideways, so chats, the map and every app can be used in landscape.
